1. Black Opal Festival
The iconic Black Opal Festival takes place in July every year. It is a week-long event that celebrates the town's mining heritage and unique culture. The highlight of the festival is the Opal Queen Ball, where young women compete to become the Opal Queen.

2. Light Up the Ridge
Light Up the Ridge is an annual event that takes place in August. During this event, the town's main street, Opal Street, is lit up with thousands of sparkly lights. The event is usually accompanied by a parade, live music, and food stalls. This event marks the beginning of the festive season in Lightning Ridge.

3. Bush Poetry and Music Weekend
The Bush Poetry and Music Weekend is held in September in the nearby town of Walgett, about an hour's drive from Lightning Ridge. This event draws poets and musicians from all over Australia who come to compete in various categories such as original poems, written poetry, and musical performances. This event is a great opportunity to listen to some of the country's best poets and musicians.

4. Lightning Ridge Outback Show

7. Lightning Ridge Christmas Carnival
The Lightning Ridge Christmas Carnival is held in December and is the town's largest annual event. The carnival features a parade, live music, fireworks, and delicious food and craft stalls. Santa Claus himself usually makes an appearance during the parade, much to the delight of the children.
